Trump Win No Loss for Baltic Security, US Ambassador Affirms

Apie Donaldo J. Trumpo pergalę prezidento rinkimuose

Vilnius, November 9, BNS–Following republican Donald Trump’s victory in US presidential elections, American ambassador to Lithuania Anne Hall said the US will honor its obligations to partners including the Baltic states and will maintain standing foreign policy. She said she understood Lithuanians are trying to understand what effect the Trump presidency will have on their country, but said friendship between the two nations developed over decades will continue to flourish.

Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaitė also commented, saying Lithuanians respect the decision of the American electorate. “We trust the United States, they are our strongest and closest ally,” she said in an audio statement released by the Presidential Press Service. “We will work closely with the new US administration both at the bilateral level, based on the US-Baltic Charter, and in NATO and other international organizations. Strong trans-Atlantic relations between America and Europe are the best solution to geopolitical challenges,” the Lithuanian president said.

France24 and Jerusalem Post reported the Israeli right-wing ruling Likkud party hailed Trump’s victory, saying the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was now over and all prospects for an independent Palestinian state were off the table.
