75th Anniversary of Pogrom in Jedwabne

On July 10, 1941, an anti-Jewish pogrom took place in Jedwabne. On the 75th anniversary of these tragic events, the POLIN Museum wishes to commemorate the victims of this crime. Taking into consideration the difficult and multifaceted nature of the murder in Jedwabne, we have prepared a description of the pogrom, detailed timeline of the events and fragments of several academic works regarding the crime. 70th Anniversary of Kielce Pogrom

On July 4, 2016, president of Poland Andrzej Duda paid tribute to the victims of the Kielce pogrom. The day before about 200 people participated in a march of remembrance. Miriam Michalska, one of many speakers, said: “I am Jewish, I am Polish. I live in Kielce. I am not here to reckon up, but to remember. I would like memory to help build mutual relations and a better future.” More here:

90th Birthday of Marian Turski

Marian Turski celebrated his 90th birthday on June 26. The journalist, historian, social activist, founding member of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and head of the Board of POLIN Museum received birthday greetings from various heads of state. More here:

Memorial at Former Synagogue in Tomaszów Lubelski

Two active residents of Tomaszów Lubelski decided to commemorate the Jewish community of their hometown. They established a foundation and collected funds for a memorial, a mural, and workshops to promote Jewish culture. More here:

Last Days of the Gorlice Synagogue: Private Investor to Destroy Building

The dismantling of the old Hassidic synagogue in Gorlice (Małopolska region) has begun. Soon the building will disappear from the town’s landscape. This was one of two synagogues in Gorlice. According to the town council, its renovation was unprofitable. More here:

Jewish Street to Appear in Łódź Center

The Łódź local government has proposed new street names meant to recall the city’s multicultural history. Jewish Street was one of the suggestions. Other streets could be named after former local factory owners (some of them Jewish) Jarociński, Poznański, Rosenblatt and Silberstein. More here:
