International Day of Remembrance of Genocide of Roma Marked in Ponar

Members of the Lithuanian Roma community gathered August 3 at the Ponar Memorial Complex to remember their compatriots murdered during the Holocaust. According to EU reports, 1 in 3 Roma still experience discrimination in EU member-states. Approximately 500 to 1,000 Roma were murdered at Ponar along with the largest mass murder of Jews in Lithuania and a number of Poles, Soviet POWs and Lithuanian anti-Nazi dissidents.
