Come Celebrate European Day of Jewish Culture with the LJC

Sunday is the annual European Day of Jewish Culture. This year the theme is People of the Book. The Lithuanian Jewish Community has a full day of events planned starting in the morning. Some events require prior registration, see below. Unless otherwise noted, events will take place at the Lithuanian Jewish Community at Pylimo street no. 4. The outdoor Cvi Park space is across the street from there. The Choral Synagogue is located about 300 meters away on Pylimo street as you go towards the train and bus station.

10:30 A.M. Beginner’s Hebrew lesson with Ruth Reches at the Choral Synagogue in Vilnius. Register here.

11:30 A.M. Yiddish language lesson with Algirdas Davidavičiu at the Choral Synagogue. Register here.

11:30 A.M. Tour of Choral Synagogue with Natalja Cheifec. Register here.

2:00 P.M. Cvi Park Israeli street food kiosk will be open for the rest of the day with food on sale and sporting activities by the Lithuanian Makabi Athletics Club.

2:10 P.M. Program of performances by students from the Sholem Aleichem ORT Gymnasium.

3:00 P.M. Fayerlakh concert

3:30 P.M. Sampling of foods from Keila’s deli. Keila Teitelbaum Flatman and Fania Lewando wrote the first Litvak vegetarian cookbook in the early part of the 20th century.

4:00 P.M. Conert by Kapela Kotra, a Lithuanian and Belarussian folk ensemble with a special klezmer program.

4:30 P.M. Exhibit opening of paintings by Simon Karczemar and Natan Karcmar’s telling of the story of his mother Nadia in the inner courtyard of the LJC.

5:30 P.M. Program of events by educator, writer and entertainer Arkadijus Vinokuras at the Cvi Park space.

6:00 P.M. Kiryat Ono youth quartet and Berlin Geiger cantors’ collegium conductor and Pestalozzistraße synagogue cantor Isidor Abromowicz perform concert at Cvi Park space.
