An exhibition of works by students in Raimundas Savickas’s art classes held at the Lithuanian Jewish Community opened June 16 on the third floor. Friends and family congratulated the students with flower arrangements. Lithuanian Jewish Community deputy chairwoman Maša Grodnikienė opened the exhibit, saying: “Thanks to the accomplished teacher Raimundas Savickas, many new talents have blossomed. Thanks to him, the talent and desire to paint was discovered by elderly people, opening up a new outlook on life, and creativity is the key to longevity. All the new artists have become friends, connected by a newly discovered world, and life has become significantly more interesting, while your spiritual lives have been enriched.”

Junona Berznitsky initiated the art classes at the community and also organized an outdoor painting camp and exhibit. Savickas said the students, now that they have exhibited, have the right to call themselves artists. One of the calendars published annually by the Lithuanian Jewish Community featured the work of Augustinas Savickas, Raimundas’s father, and now the son has been invited to teach community members and open an art school within the LJC. He teaches according to a program, and last year they covered the gamut, from Egyptian art to expressionism. Savickas said learning art is a long road, and he vowed to continue. He said he and his students will hold many exhibitions and outdoor painting camps in the future, since they have been so successful, showing they are on the right path and should continue on that path.
