Pension payments available to additional holocaust victims following negotiations

Recent negotiations with the German government have allowed the Claims Conference to expand eligibility for pension programs. According to these criteria, eligible for Claims Conference pensions may be Jewish Holocaust survivors who were in: (i) Concentration camps; or (ii) Ghettos for at least 3 months; or (iii) Hiding for at least 6 months without access to the outside world, or lived under false identify for at least 6 months, in Nazi-occupied territory.

Fourth World Litvak Congress

The Jewish Community of Lithuania has a pleasure and a privilege to invite you to The Fourth World Litvak Congress, which will be held here in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, from 22nd of September to 25th of September, 2013. The event will bring together natives and descendants of Jews from the Litvak lands, which coincide with modern Lithuania, and also Belarus, Latvia, northeastern Poland and much more. The Congress will among its many activities commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto in 1943.

Event to Mark 64th Anniversary of Israel’s Independence

Israeli ambassador to Lithuania and Latvia Hagit Ben-YaakovIsraeli ambassador to Lithuania and Latvia Hagit Ben-YaakovThe Israeli Embassy to Lithuania and Latvia held an official event on May 10, 2012, to mark the 64th anniversary of the foundation of the State of Israel, with Israeli ambassador to Lithuania and Latvia Hagit Ben-Yaakov, embassy staff, members of the Lithuanian Jewish Community and representatives of Lithuanian politics and members of the Lithuanian diplomatic corps in attendance. The event began with the national anthems of Israel and Lithuania, followed by ambassador Hagit Ben-Yaakov’s congratulations to all assembled in accent-less Lithuanian on the occasion of Israeli Independence Day. The ambassador said she was pleased with twenty years so far of productive cooperation between Lithuania and Israel and bilateral economic, political and cultural relations, and expressed wishes for continued cooperation between the two states, peace in the Middle East and the success of all who assembled for the event. The Israeli Embassy to Lithuania and Latvia gave every attendee a present: a book about Israel and Israeli cuisine called “Israel a la carte.”

    Everyone interested in learning how to cook traditional Jewish dishes and in finding out more about traditions of preparation and the special characteristics of Jewish cuisine is invited to attend the series of seminars called Jewish Cuisine. Topics: 4:00 P.M., May 10, 2013 -- Traditional Israeli cuisine with a taste of Jerusalem: traditional Israeli falafel. 4:00 P.M., May 17, 2013 -- Fish dishes -- hraime. 4:00 P.M., May 24, 2013 -- Traditional Jewish matzo dishes -- matzo cakes. The seminars are on Fridays in the White Hall on the first floor of the Lithuanian Jewish Community, Pylimo 4, Vilnius.
