Everything about the Seventh Fort in the Book and Film by Vytautas Petrikėnas and Martynas Kosas

The Kaunas District Public Library will hold a presentation of V. Petrikėnas and M. Kosas’s book “VII fortas: lietuviška tragedija” [“The Seventh Fort: A Lithuanian Tragedy”] and screen the film of the same name at 5 PM on May 8, 2012, the Kaunas District Library announced.

Ninth Fort Museum historian Vytautas Petrikėnas and Kaunas Fort Crew Military  History Club leader Martynas Kosas decided to collect exhaustive information and write the book because the Lithuanian public knows so little about what went on at these forts in Kaunas. The book reportedly contains facts, witness testimonies and insights by researchers never published before. It is intended to help readers acquaint themselves with the painful history and to understand the tie binding the past, present and future.

A documentary film complements the book. The filmmakers use historical sources and conversations with Lithuanian and foreign researchers as well as public figures in order to disclose the true scope and details of the tragedy. Historical re-enactments by Grenadierius Miltiary Club members are supposed to make the film more realistic. “We, the citizens of Lithuania today, cannot remain apathetic to the history of our own country, because it is only by understanding what our people experienced that we can understand our people,” the two authors reportedly said.

Admission is free.
